The UK Hash House Harriers

The Drinking Club with the Running Problem

Hashing is a form of non-competitive cross-country running with the main objective of working up a decent thirst Great emphasis is placed on the social aspects - particularly the communal boozing session at the apres-hash. It's a fun activity and not be taken at all seriously.

TWENTY YEARS AND COUNTING
 PICT0018(edited)
It was Boxing Day at the Daneway,
Holly hung from the old stone walls,
Elizabeth said “The Hash are here”,
And Richard answered “Bugger”.

It’s twenty years at the Daneway,
And twenty years of Hash.
Twenty years of crap parking
For the annual Boxing Day thrash.

The first time we experienced it
We were young and a little bit green,
We didn’t quite know the consequence
Of the CVH3 scene.

The barbecues and parties,
The birthdays and the do’s,
When we first came across it
To us, hashes were types of stews.

We remember meeting our first GOM,
Paul, short and fairly dumpy,
We’ve moved on now, to a trail master
Who’s fairly thin and jumpy.

Running here and jogging there
Up the hills and through the woods,
Every week a different hare
Through droughts and winter floods.

I went twice, fool that I was,
Not knowing what you do.
I came back knackered, out of breath
And minus half a stone or two.

I’ve put it all back on since then,
And some more besides,
Perhaps I’ll join you one more time
Along the Bathurst rides.

But there again, perhaps I won’t,
I’m better stopping here,
Where Liz and I can do what’s best,
That’s serving hashers beer!
